Apples to Applesauce

So after picking all those apples we spend the weekend deciding what we'd do with all of them. Well we'll be making at least one pie. We looked through several cook books to see some of our options: Apple cake, apple bread, apple crisps, applesauce, apple juice, apple cider, apple muffins, apple dumplings, fried apples, and the list could go on....

Today we've decided to make apple sauce. Here is the process we used.

Washing the apples.

Nice and clean.

The apple corer/peeler/slicer.

We only used three apples to begin with for our first batch.

We put the sliced apples in boiling water. I ended up pouring out most of the water so that there was only enough to cover the bottom of the pot. After simmering for about 10 minutes I removed them from the heat.

We used a potato masher to mash the apples. We wanted chunky apple sauce so we only did this step (for smooth, you can put them in a blender/food processor).

This is our first batch of all natural (no sugar added) of chunky apple sauce!!

The end result was VERY tasty!!!
